The opening of the new Audi Centre Durban

Audi South Africa is proud to announce the opening of the new Audi Centre Durban, the second Audi terminal in KwaZulu-Natal and the first for the inner city of Durban. The opening of the new facility was celebrated with a function attended by Audi Centre Durban customers and stakeholders on Thursday, 29 October 2015. This is also the first Terminal for the McCarthy Group in South Africa.

Audi Centre Durban, based in Stalwart Simelane Street, began trading in their new Terminal facility in May 2015 after beginning construction in August 2014. The site is situated within the Durban City Precinct directly opposite prominent landmarks such as the International Convention Centre and the ANC building. It is less than a kilometre from the coastline and rests on 144 pile foundations of between 600 and 900 metres in diameter as a result of the high water table and sandy soil.

An old yeast factory was demolished to make space for the new Audi Terminal, which measures 11,721 square metres and consists of four floors including two parking decks with 217 parking spaces. The building includes a 12 vehicle showroom, 26 vehicle Pre-owned showroom and 18 workbays in the workshop.

The new Audi Centre Durban is also the first Audi Sport partner in South Africa, therefore encompasses a designated area within the dealership dedicated to the Audi Sport brand and its high performance RS models. By mid-2016, there will be a further 13 Audi Sport partners across South Africa with the aim to sell Audi RS vehicles exclusively through these dealerships.

As with all Audi Terminal buildings, the new Audi Centre Durban is benchmark in terms of eco-sustainability. The building includes electronic control gear systems, heat pumps for water heating, cavity walls for insulation, solar e-thermal glazing and ceiling insulations to prevent heat gain loss, mechanical heating and cooling, as well as a water cooled air-conditioning system which provides substantial energy savings. Provision for water harvesting has also been made and will be installed in the future. The parking deck over the Pre-owned showroom helps to shield the building and cars from UV and other climatic elements.

“The new Audi Centre Durban Terminal is a world-class facility and I am confident that the Audi business will continue to grow from strength to strength in this region. We are also excited that this is the first Audi Sport Dealership in South Africa as we embark on an exclusive network in the upcoming year,” said Paul Sansom, Head of Audi South Africa. “I would further like to thank the McCarthy Group for their confidence in the Audi brand and wish Audi Centre Durban all the best in their new home,” concluded Sansom.

Audi South Africa currently has a network of 44 Audi Dealerships nationwide, of which 13 are Audi Terminal buildings with a further 4 Terminals due for completion in 2016.
