Introduction of the Audi A7 Sportback 3.0 TDI Bi —Turbo

The Audi A7 Sportback was launched in South Africa in March 2011 and has since targeted niche customers in the competitive C-segment of the premium market. This elegant five-door model unites the emotion-packed character of a coupé with the comfort and prestige of a sedan. To date, the Audi A7 Sportback range has satisfied 335 Audi customers in South Africa.

The lightweight body of the Audi A7 Sportback is made up of 20 percent aluminum and its high rigidity is the foundation for the precise handling, excellent workmanship and quiet cabin which is free of intrusive noise. Combine this with the powerful and highly efficient engines, the sporty chassis and the advanced assistance and multimedia systems, it sets a new standard in the luxury market.

The Audi A7 Sportback is designed to slot comfortably between the C-segment offering (Audi A6) and D segment model range (Audi A8). At the launch of the A7 Sportback, the range consisted of two six-cylinder engines: one petrol and one diesel, with an entry-level engine added to the line-up in January 2013. An additional diesel engine sporting new technology and powerful credentials is now being introduced to the range in the form of the 3.0 TDI Bi-Turbo.

The Audi A7 Sportback is the first Audi to receive this unique Bi-Turbo diesel engine which produces 230 kW. It is matched to an 8-speed Tiptronic transmission and consumes on average 6.3 litres of fuel per 100 km, corresponding to CO? emissions of 166 g/km. This engine also features efficiency technology such as the recuperation system, thermal management and start-stop system as standard.

The sophisticated technology results in immensely powerful performance and in particular at high altitude. The top-of-the-range TDI provides its peak torque of 650 Nm of torque from 1,450 to 2,800 rpm. It revs up to 5,200 rpm with no difficulty at all, with a sporty sound through the entire rev range. This is due in large part to the sound actuator integrated into the exhaust system. This is essentially a loudspeaker in a “side channel” of the exhaust system. It uses a modulation process to superimpose a defined oscillating pattern over the typical exhaust sound, underscoring the awesome power delivery of the 3.0 TDI Bi-Turbo with a rich and sonorous tapestry of sound.
